The nursery was started up by David Bernert(owner) in the mid 1980's with just one greenhouse and a barn. The farm itself was a place the family built and used to work and gather on weekends and summers. Farming vegetables and blueberries and finally the interest in ornamental plants set in for David. As a hobby to begin with, ambition and passion for plants grew. As a young boy I began working at this farm weekends and summers with David (my uncle).

The farm has grown steadily in terms of size and production since that time. We are wholesale nursery selling to local nurseries, brokers, and landscapers. We sell ornamental conifers (mostly grafted trees) with many varieties of Japanese maples. We sell field grown material and containers (1gallon thru 7gallon).

We are also a propagation nursery starting our plants from either seed, cuttings, or grafting. Our grafter Joel Aguilara has been grafting for the nursery for about 20 years. We graft about 50,000 plants every year; conifers in the winter and maples in the summer. These plants will go to the field to be sold as larger trees in 3-5 years, be sold as liners to other nurseries, or be moved to containers.

We are very much spread out in terms of what we produce. We grow high numbers in many popular varieties but also include several lesser know varieties. In total we grow more than 50 varieties of Japanese maples and more than 200 varieties of tree and shrubs.

We currently have 30 acres of field full of plants all at different stages. 25 percent of our fields are up to size(sale-ready). We fill 16 greenhouses full of 1 and 3 gallon maples. We have nearly 30,000 #1(1gallon) maples available beginning in the fall season of each year. We also have all our varieties that are field grown available in liners.

Growing plants I have found requires a lot of patients and attention. A lot of experimenting with different production techniques can bring both satisfying results and sometime painful disapointment. All of it leads to a better understanding of the product being made. After 3-5 years you know that plant a little better. You can appreciate its strengths and understand and realize its weaknesses. The customer is better served with this extensive knowledge because you can better understand their needs.

We grow plants and a passion for growing, producing, and of course selling plants is found at our Nursery. We have a small group operation but we all have the desire to bring a good quality plant to our customers.
